Rockettes

Rockettes is a one-off factual entertainment programme presented by Anne Lundon and produced for BBC ALBA by purpleTV.

The programme follows the engaging stories of the dancers of the cheerleading Pro-Dance group the Scottish Rockettes as they train, audition and perform their way through a season.

Laced with glitz, glamour and fake tan, the documentary also digs deeper, providing an insight into the hard work and dedication displayed by the dancers who embrace a determination to be perceived as positive role models.

Sara Jack from purpleTV asked Rockettes Hazel, Claire and Deone about their experience of being filmed for the show.

Hazel McGarry said, ‘It was great! I was a little apprehensive to start with as I didn’t know what I was going to be grilled about, but I really enjoyed it. It’s a great experience to look back at and remember certain events. I was a little bit worried about watching the programme until I saw the clips and the promo. It looks absolutely amazing and now I’m excited to see it on TV more than anything!’

Claire Nimmo added, ‘The best thing was getting to know the purpleTV team and going to Sheffield [to cheer at a Basketball game with Glasgow Rocks] together. We really missed the camera crew after a full weekend together! I’m really excited to see the programme after watching the promo, but you know what it’s like watching yourself or hearing yourself speak on film – cringe!’

Fellow cheerleader Deone Robertson, who was crowned Miss European 2012, said, 'Being part of the programme has been a very new and surreal, but great, experience. It's something I never thought I would have been part of, but it’s been lovely working with some fantastic people throughout the weeks and I'm looking forward to seeing all the hard work being aired. I love being part of the Rockettes and this is now something I can keep for the rest of my life, thank you!'

Rockettes was transmitted on Christmas Day, Tuesday 25 December 2012. You can view clips and images from the programme on the BBC ALBA website.
