RTS nomination for Tommy Burns

We are thrilled to announce that our feature documentary, Tommy Burns, has been nominated for an award by the Royal Television Society Scotland in the Best Sport Film category. The film was funded by MG ALBA and broadcast on BBC ALBA in September 2018.

The RTS awards ceremony will take place in Glasgow on the 12th of June 2019.

Our film, produced ten years on from the former Kilmarnock and Celtic manager’s death from cancer at just 51 years old, features Tommy Burns’ daughters Emma and Jenna, and sons Michael and Jonathan. They look back on the life and career of their beloved father, a much-revered player, manager and friend to many.

Margot McCuaig, who wrote, produced and directed the film said,

“Tommy was an ordinary man who through hard work and determination made an indelible impression on life and this film rightly marks his contribution to Scottish cultural history.

“The film focuses on three themes central to Tommy; family, faith and football and I am delighted for Tommy’s family that his story has been recognised by the RTS judges.”

Wish us luck!

purpleTV has won the RTS Best Sport Film award on two previous occasions, for Jock Stein and Jim Baxter. Tartan Pride, The Famous Five and Tannadice 87 were also nominated for the award.
